Tactical training - shoot, move, and communicate

I read this book twice. First time, I had hoped to discover more about Central Asia and China. That content includes the sport of horsemen fighting over a goat body, which can be seen on YouTube as well. The second time, I tried to follow the story line which included many people on many parts of the earth, all wanting (pro) or fighting against (con) a war between China and the USA. Most episodes included brutal violence by men and women, thus the name of the book Brute Force. So much violence works against a world at peace.

All six books at once-what a ride!

Definitely a first, I read all six books back to back after reading the first of this series. Unable to put them down and barely able to breathe from the suspense many times, it will be good to relax waiting for Cameron's next novel. Not since Robert Ludlum and Vince Flynn have I been so completely captivated by the characters and plot of these stories. Anyone loving spies and espionage will love these novels. But don't think about getting much else done once you begin reading! I highly recommend reading these books in order since the sinister plot begins with the first and resolves in Brute Force.

This book was great. Getting to see a reimagining of Cinderella in todays time period. Cynthia Cinders is a business owner of a cleaning service that just wants people to be as organized as she is. She gets to meet the man of her dreams at a 'ball'. She gets to have her happily ever after but only after she learns to love the man behind the mask. I loved the twists that this book had. I think anyone that wants to read about a curvy girl getting the guy and not losing her self in the process. Overall I would very much recommend this book.

After reading the first book, I was excited to read this one. The story line was promising but I became frustrated with all those stupid lists that Cynthia made!!! I skipped over half the book because of that. Cynthia's character I did not care that much for. I thought she was a spoiled person and a bit trashy. I mean she steals her stepsisters date and sleeps with him?! Come on!! I did enjoy Rex. He was sweet. This was a disappointment and I hope the next one will be better.

A delightful twist to the age old story. The cast of characters is interesting the way the author ties them together in the storyline.
I like the depiction of the stepmother and her daughters, I'm still waiting for the shoe to drop on that one. Watch out Bane, Lol.
I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it, this one is even better. Can't wait to see how the next one turns out.

A good reference

Cellermanship is a great, if succinct, book. It gives you virtually all information you would need to serve cask ale. As a CAMRA publication, it's focussed entirely on serving cask ale in a pub. This means that homebrewers or craft brewers may find that it's not the most complete source of information for their needs. As a guide, though, this is probably something every bar should have a copy of for reference.

a 144 page textbook

I wrote the following as a rebuttal to the 1 star review.
i don't know--- I read the same book as the 1 star reviewer did. it was written (this is his 5th revised edition over 30 odd years) by someone who clearly knows what they are talking about. and contrary to the negative opinion, it was all about cellarmanship of "real ale", meaning to say "cask conditioned", as opposed to artificially carbonated beer, stored in, and served out of kegs. this is not intended for a "new homebrewer" as [the 1 star reviewer] identified himself. this book answered pretty much every question I had about how cask conditioned ale and beer are stored, handled and tapped. and also recognizing, fixing, and preventing problems that are unique to this specialized endeavor. perhaps the 1 star reviewer didn't understand what he was buying. it happens sometimes. I'm sure he can resell the book quite easily---not to worry, and have another homebrew. I will just quote 3 sentences from the introduction: "This book is intended as a textbook. Its aim is neither to imbue cask-conditioned beer, real ale, with any rosy glow of nostalgia nor to put forward any polemical position. It simply recognizes that caring for cask-conditioned beer, a product now almost unique to Great Britain, requires some learnt skills and techniques. ..." I've been homebrewing for more than 25 years. I found the book interesting. if I can just say one more thing here: this author believes that cask conditioned, (which is the same basic principle as bottle conditioned) makes for a superior tasting beer. I fully agree with this argument, but some homebrewers don't agree about this, and that debate will continue. however, this author also states that cask conditioned (live) beer requires some special handling and specific knowledge because it is not the same as factory made kegged (dead) beer, which is force carbonated, and force fed to the tap. I don't see much to debate about this second point. this textbook hopes to offer a reference for those who want to learn something about cellarmanship, hence the name of the book. I really think [the 1 star] review was way off base.

Not geared for homebrewers (but still somewhat interesting)

My interests in homebrewing led me to this purchase. I wanted to learn more about cask ale and how I might serve it at home. Although that is not the primary purpose of this book, I was able to glean some of what I was seeking. It's very thorough book, aimed at the professional. It probably will not be a great reference for me, but it was worth a read.

Better than expected

I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get and glanced through the ebook to get an idea if the author is new age or more in line with the Church's age-old teachings. I was pleased to see much from St. Ignatius as well as quotes from a book published by Sheed and Ward....a sure sign of truth. I had ordered the ebook being in the midst of discerning a life move and was greatly helped by Kosloski's words.

Good little tool

I do not even recall how I came across this book, it might have been recommended based on other books I had read or bought. But to be honest you cannot beat the price. The ebook is available for a very reasonable rate. In many ways it reminds me of a bible track or 4 Spiritual Laws booklets that were used for evangelization by non-denomination groups when I was at university. It is a very short volume. But in reality has a pretty solid message.

The main focus of the book is to be a guide to help us in growth of discernment during our times of prayer and meditation. The main focus is that we hear four voices when we pray, two are internal and two are external. The internal one's or distractions and or our own wish fulfilment, the external are either Satan trying to lead us astray or the authentic voice of God speaking to us and guiding us. In the introduction the author states: "As always, I suggest taking everything to a trusted spiritual director, who acts as God's instrument and can help you sift out what is true and what is false. I hope this short eBook gives you the clarity you are searching for." And even for someone who has prayed for years there are some good tips in this book worth pursuing. Through the rest of the book Philip gives clear concise teaching, drawing heavily upon saints and church tradition to help us learn how to discern between the four voices. He draws extensively from Saint Ignatius and he has an amazing quote from Father Jacques Philippe.

One of the greatest strengths of the book is the two page appendix, it gives some amazing jumping off points to go deeper on the lessons taught in this book. Of the 22 books recommended I have read a few but after encountering quotes in this book have added a few more of them to my to be read pile. This book was a good enough read at such a great price point that as soon as I finished it I bought another of his and immediately read it also!

Basic but direct and pungent.

I started reading materials /self study St Ignatius last October. Simply put, it save me from me. The guidelines were so viceraly churning and made me to make a u-turn in situations.
This book is a short read and excellent reference when one needs a quick guide to share.

On the 20th Anniversary of its original publication, the "Hsing-I Journal" has now been re-released in printed form. Originally published from 1994 to 1996, "The Hsing-I Journal" was a widely read and very well received foray into the world of Internal Martial Arts and Hsing I (xingyi) in particular. In only a few short years of its life, the journal became one of the more respected internal martial arts publications around. For many years since its demise, former fans of The Hsing-I Journal have cajoled and prodded the original publishers to reprint these long gone issues. Now, finally, this compilation has been independently released in a book format to accommodate the demand for another printed version. This new re-release has been faithfully reproduced from the original magazines in as much detail as is possible including the original covers. The artwork of the era, specifically the photos, were a mere 200 dpi. As a result, the photos in the reprint suffer a bit in terms of pixilation but are still adequate for illustration. The real gold of the magazine, which is found in the actual printed matter, is still very legible and easy to read in this compiled edition. The original journal was lauded for both the quality of the articles contained and the in-depth interviews with many prominent internal martial arts masters of the era, including the only interview ever granted in print by the late Master Kenny Gong. This reprint of the original magazine series is much like an internal martial arts antique. The compilation represents a snapshot in time with regard to what was happening in the Internal Martial Arts world within the United States during that same time period. The journal was able to entice many prominent people to step forward and aid in the effort of dissemination of vital training information. All of the article and photo content is just as it was in the original magazines. In order to keep the format as close to the original publications as possible, the only alteration has been to some advertisements which had appeared in the original magazines. Where possible, the ads have been removed or replaced with more updated content. When this was not possible, the outdated contact information has been removed but the ad remains just as it was in the original magazine. All eight original issues are contained in this compilation. Interviews with various Masters of the Internal Arts (some now deceased) with detailed information and insights on their training techniques, theoretical perspectives and personal philosophy regarding the internal martial arts are richly presented. Written gems on overall training, Chinese Medicine, Philosophy, Poetry and much more are once again in printed form for your enjoyment. This is a must have for any internal martial artist or practitioner. The interviews alone represent a literal treasure trove of vital information with regard to internal martial arts training. And it is all now available once again for an entire new generation of internal martial artists from which to read and learn.

A good Hsing-I book

This book Mike put together his Journal, basically a Hsing-I magazine. There are 8 issues in this one book, printed in hard copy. He covers chinese medicine, history, tradition and interviews he conducted with Hsing-I masters.
In the beginning learning Hsing-I is difficult to understand, what you are to be doing and changes that are happening, my interpretation is always changing and evolving. There are so many ways you can go or take your training. This book gives you the chance to gain insight from several masters. Not just as you would from a martial arts book, but an interview gives you a chance to hear answers to questions.
Well worth adding to your library.

Think you know video games? Think again...

I've been playing video games since the mid 80's. I thought I knew a lot about the games and their histories. This book showed me just how little I actually knew.

The book is packed with excellent bits of history from simple things like "What was the FIRST interactive video game?" (hint: it wasn't "Pong") to the "fun-filled soap opera" with the long-haired guy from Ion Storm :).

The good ole' consoles are covered as well. It's amazing how much drama transpired when the Nintendo was released and also just how many clones (successful and failures) came before and after it.

Lets not forget the backstabbing among former friends and associates all in the name of the mighty dollar. Video games aren't violent, it's the people that make them haha.

If you're looking for action, drama, suspense, and comedy in the video game world, then this is for you. It really delivers as "The Greatest Moments in Video Game History". It really is a fun and informative read. A must for any video game fan.

Great facts but not all are trustworthy!

This book kept me hooked on all the details that and facts presented in it. However, I was turned down when I noticed that some of its sources came from Wikipedia. Although many facts were interesting, I felt that some of those facts are not trustworthy. However, it does give you better insight unto everything that was happening in the video game industry. So if you want interesting facts this is a must buy.

Riddled With Mistakes

This book was full of lots of interesting facts, but I have found a lot of errors and I haven't even read the whole thing. It said that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released in 2008, which it wasn't. It also said that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was released in two different years. Those are just two of this books many errors.

Absolutely Amazing!

I don't normally review books, but Sarra Cannon's fourth book in the Peachville High Demon's series is so good that I felt the need to. If you haven't read the first three books in the series, you should start with those. (They're great reads!) If you already read those and have been eagerly awaiting Shadow Demons, you will not be disappointed! Mrs. Cannon's writing is spectacular, and the characters experience a fair amount of growth as more of Peachville's secrets are revealed. There is a lot of new information about both Harper and Jackson's histories that brings even more depth to these intriguing characters. And, of course, there's still plenty of the romance, action, and mystery that makes these books so great. You can't beat the low price, and there are relatively few errors (if there's any at all). I'd even say that this series is becoming one of my all time favorites, and I think Shadow Demons is probably the best so far! I cannot wait for Book #5! :)

Series keeps getting better

Anyone who knows me knows that I love this series. I tweet about it and mention it to friends on facebook. I received a copy from my cousin Julie to read and compare thoughts for review. I can't write this review without gushing. I was so excited to start reading this book. Within the first few chapters I was ecstatic with uncontained joy. Sarra brought back the ribbons. I know it is a minor thing but in book 1 Harper had a style all her own that included tying a ribbon around her wrist as a fashion accessory. In the following books it wasn't mentioned again. Harper had become a lemming. She lost her unique sense of style. But in book 4 Harper ties a pink ribbon around her wrist for her official date with Jackson. I smiled throughout that whole chapter.

This book had Harper finding out truths about her mother and members of the Order. What she finds out puts her life in danger. Jackson is by Harper's side for the most part and it seems that their relationship is right on track. However, Jackson still keeps things from Harper because he feels he needs to protect her. I love that Harper is a strong female character. She doesn't put up with being kept in the dark and her spunky, sassy side comes out. She lets Jackson and those around her know that she is not a pushover.

This work of art, yes it is art to me, is self published. It does have some minor editing errors but not enough to distract the reader. The story is so full of action that the reader can overlook any errors. I was torn between wanting to finish the book and wanting to make it last. It was over far too quickly for me and I was left wanting more. More Harper, More Jackson, and More answers. Sarra has developed her characters so well over the course of this series that I am now attached to them. The story just keeps getting better and I am intrigued about where she is taking this story for book 5. I can't give Sarra enough kudos for a job well done.

My thoughts (if you haven't read the series there may be some spoilers) Read on with caution:

I like the friendship that has developed between Harper and Courtney since book two. I am still wondering about Courtney. Not much, if anything, has been given away about her background. I'd like to know a bit more about her and see if she plays a bigger role in helping Harper.
Book 4 introduces a whole group of Shadow Demons that are rebelling against the order. I'm wondering if there is going to be some kind of showdown between the Order and the Demons. What are the Demons going to do back in the Shadow World.

Maryanne saved Harper from her family, the Crowes, and seems to be friends with Harper. Courtney and Maryanne seem to be protective of Harper. In book 4 the Demons say that the Order is powerful and there is no way to gain support from all the Orders. I'm wondering if they might be able to get enough support from witches that the Order does not recruit. Courtney and Maryanne seem to be powerful and there just might be others out there like them that can side with Harper against the Order.

Jackson oh Jackson, how I love thee. I fall more in love with this character as the series progresses. Jackson still gives Harper kisses that make her melt and I melt right along with her. Harper puts my feelings into words when she says "My heart beat faster when he looked at me. Even after all these months of being close to him, I still hadn't gotten used to the way he made me feel. I loved everything about him, from his bright green eyes all the way down to his leather boots. I loved the curve of his jaw-line and the way his lips always curled up on one side in that sexy half-smile of his." Yep I'm a goner. He seems to have his powers back but where does that leave his brother and just how did that happen.

Brooke, Brooke, Brooke. We start to see that she is different toward Harper in book 3 and it gets worse in book 4. I'm a little confused here. She is all snarky with her comments and insinuates to Harper that she would be a better Prima. Then at the end of book 4 she is acting like she is remorseful and reluctant to do what her family wants. Who is the true Brooke? Is she a friend or a foe? Haven't quite figured that out.

I recommend this whole series. If you haven't read this series then don't hesitate any longer. You won't be disappointed and you just might find you fall in love with Jackson and that's okay I don't mind sharing. Harper will be the girl you root for. You'll love her determination and strength of character. You can't lose. Go now...get started.

I bought this one for under a dollar just to finish off the first three books in the series. It was as good as the first 3 in the series. Nothing I will continue reading though as "coming of age" type books are not a favorite of mine. I barely remember those high school years and certainly don't miss them. lol I'm closer to 70 than 17, so take that for what it's worth. I did like the conceptual twist on demons not being evil, but an enslaved race forced through black magic spells to serve black magic type witches. Not for fundamental religious types though.
